SETTING UP A SIMPLE INTERVIEW

by Christina Fox

This is here as an aide memoire for the people who have been on my 5 day course.

  1. Find a fixed (ie non swivel) chair for your interviewee
  2. Check the background behind the chair - move anything distracting (large plants, standard lamps etc)
  3. Raise the camera on the tripod until the lens is level with your interviewees eyes
  4. Place the camera near to the interviewees eye line as possible (this usually means the camera will be close to your shoulder)
  5. Check tripod spirit level
  6. Make final adjustments to lighting
  7. White balance the camera
  8. Check the interviewees eyes are in focus
  9. Zoom out to an MCU of the interviewee
  10. Mic the interviewee and check level
  11. Mic yourself and check levels
  12. Give a final check to picture composition
  13. Start recording
  14. Finish off with a 2 shot
